How to safely move your home gym safely and stress-free

Many Australians have purchased many new items for the home during this recent pandemic. One of the most popular additions being a home gym!  What does this mean if you decide to move house in the future? There will be heavier equipment to transport to your next home. Luckily, we know all the best tips to help safeguard and pack your exercise equipment for the most stress-free and convenient move possible.

Start light and clean

It is particularly important to clean and sanitise all the equipment surfaces first before packing items away. Depending on the size of the home gym, it is best to clear out the clutter with lighter items such as yoga mats and/or foam rollers before beginning to move larger equipment. If you are hiring professional removalists, it is essential to wipe everything down for optimal hygiene and safety.

Disassemble and label large machines

Find the instruction manual before disassembling larger machines such as the treadmill, bicycle, elliptical, rowing or weight machine. This will make the re-assembly process much easier and straight forward if you are doing it yourself. Another great tip is to take pictures as you disassemble all the parts, so you know where everything goes once you put it back together. Ensure you place each screw in a zip lock bag once all the parts are disassembled to prevent you from losing any parts along the way. If this process seems too overwhelming, you always have the option to contact our experienced removalist team who can help move your exercise equipment smoothly in half the time with no hidden costs.

Strategically pack your free weights

Free weights, dumbbells, barbells, kettle bells and medicine balls must be packed very carefully since they can cause the most damage. We recommend you avoid placing more than 15kg in a single moving box to prevent unnecessary lifting injuries. Then we suggest to bubble wrap all the extra parts such as the clamps from the heavier weights and place them directly into the truck. Lastly, make sure you secure the weights down with a rope or strap to prevent any extra movement.
