Moving house is an exciting time, especially if it’s been a long-term goal for a while. There’s something truly unique about packing all your boxes and walking through a now bare space, knowing you’ll be decorating a new one possibly in the same day. Yet the fresh buzz of starting your life in a new space can sometimes be dulled by the headache of packing, planning and organising everything in a short amount of time.
We’ve compiled a list of fun ways to make your moving experience more enjoyable.
Make a packing and unpacking playlist
Who can resist a good music banger? Nothing beats singing and dancing whilst entering a space you’ll call home. We recommend creating two playlists, one for when you’re packing and another for unpacking.
We recommend:
- Upbeat Vibes for Packing
This will help you stay motivated when the task ahead might seem impossible.
- Relaxing Music for Unpacking
The worst is over, now is the time to relax and slowly unpack in your new space.
Pack a First Night Bag
As hard as we can try… it’s very unlikely you’ll be fully unpacked and ready to rumble on day one of living in your new home, so we think it’s a great idea to pack an essential bag. This bag can include things like:
- Toiletries
- Food
- Bath towels
- Bedsheets + Pillows = PJs
- A few sets of clothes
Smaller Boxes Can Be Your Best Friend
Whilst it might seem natural to use larger boxes for your packing experience, it’s sometimes not the most practical decision. We recommend using smaller boxes where possible, simply because it means your items are more accessible! You won’t have to rummage through a massive box filled with things you don’t need straight away.
Plus unpacking smaller boxes can make the mammoth task seem a little more achievable.
Have a Plan for Food
Let’s be real, nobody is in the mood to cook after spending a whole day unpacking. We recommend researching your local restaurants and takeaway places, so you know exactly what you’ll be eating for the next few nights ahead of time. If you want to be extra organised, you could even pre-arrange food delivery so there’s less hassle when you move.
Set a Deadline
Sometimes procrastination can be the little devil on our shoulder telling us to “take it easy” when we really should be getting things done. Setting a deadline for certain tasks can assist you in resisting the urge to take breaks when they’re not needed.
Setting a deadline can involve:
- Breaking it down into rooms
- Focusing on the essentials and working your way back
Overall, moving house is a fun and exciting time for all involved. Whilst it might seem daunting at first, moving house is a great opportunity to seize the unknown and experience new things. We hope this list helps you make the most of your experience!
